Marking the close of the application deadline for the Social Innovation Fund (SIF), the Corporation for National and Community Service hosted a conference call to release details about the diverse SIF applicant pool. Marta Urquilla, Senior Advisor for the Social Innovation Fund, announced there were 69 applications received by the Corporation and over 200 collaborations were reported between local governments, non-profits, and private entities. Urquilla stressed that the proposals were balanced among the three SIF focus areas-healthy futures, youth development and school support, and economic opportunity. In addition, the SIF applicants represented 25 states and the District of Columbia.
In July, the Corporation will announce the 7-10 intermediary organizations that will receive funding. These intermediary organizations will then hold an open and competitive sub-grantee selection process within six months of receiving the award. The Corporation expects multiple sub-grantee competitions to occur across the country. Potential sub-grantee applicants are strongly encouraged to visit the Corporation’s website for information on the award announcement.
