HUD's New Funding Opportunity Links Affordable Housing with Education Reform

HUD announces a new funding opportunity that links affordable housing with education reform. With $35 million in available funds, the Capital Fund Education and Training Community Facilities Program (CFCF) provides public authorities with the resources to develop facilities that can support early childhood education programs and job training programs for public housing residents. Through this exciting funding opportunity, housing authorities can apply directly for funds to either construct new facilities or rehabilitate existing structures. Funding may also be used to revamp an existing community center that offers services to public housing residents. According to HUD, CFCF further demonstrates the Obama Administration’s commitment to including education reforms in housing programs. Two other grant opportunities from HUD-Choice Neighborhoods and Hope VI-also require applicants to provide early childhood education opportunities.
