The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has issued a planning grant notice to support the development of comprehensive community health centers in medically underserved communities. Authorized under the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, HRSA will award $10 million in funding to support approximately 125 grantees. In the notice, HRSA requires a one year-project period with an annual cap of $80,000. Applicants that exceed the maximum planning grant amount of $80,000 will not be considered for this funding opportunity. In addition, proposed planning activities should be consistent with the requirements of the PHS Act such as: conducting a needs assessment; designing an appropriate health service delivery model; increasing community involvement; developing partnerships; and securing technical assistance. This funding opportunity will help to support and sustain critical health services on the neighborhood level. Public or private nonprofit entities, including tribal, faith-based and community based organizations must apply by March 18, 2011.
