House Bill Makes Promise Neighborhoods a Federally-Authorized Program

We announced previously that Senator Tom Harkin introduced legislative language that would authorize Promise Neighborhoods as a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).  Rep. Donald Payne of New Jersey, Rep. Mike Honda of California and Rep. Robert Scott of Virginia have now introduced a bill in the House that would do the same. HR 2098 mirrors what was introduced by Sen. Harkin, authorizing five-year, renewable grants to help communities scale ip and sustain their strategies to improve educational outcomes for children in distressed communities. We will continue to keep you updated as the legislative process moves forward.
