Community-Police Partnership Grants Announced

The MetLife Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation have partnered to promote neighborhood safety through the Community-Police Partnership Grant. In its 11th year, this grant recognizes that community-police partnerships are an integral part of promoting community safety and revitalization. Community residents know their neighborhoods best and, as a result, play a critical role in developing safety initiatives and addressing the unique needs present in their communities. The Community-Police Partnership Grant includes 2 distinct award categories:

Neighborhood Revitalization Awards: These awards will recognize community-police partnerships that have worked together to reduce crime by redeveloping the physical landscape of communities. Examples of revitalization plans include real estate development, new or expanded businesses and renovated community facilities. One $30,000 grant and four $20,000 grants will be awarded.

Special Strategy Awards: These awards will recognize community safety initiatives that provide solutions to one or more of the following:
  • Applied Technology
  • Aesthetics and Greenspace Improvement
  • Diversity Inclusion and Integration
  • Drug Market Disruption
  • Gang Prevention and Youth Safety
  • Seniors and Safety
Eligible applicants include: community-based groups, city agencies (police/sheriff’s departments) or nonprofits. Applications are due March 11, 2012. Awards are expected to range from $15,000 to $30,000.
