"Cities Promote Opportunity" Audio Conference Series

Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity and the National League of Cities, Institute for Youth, Education and Families are co-sponsoring a three-part audio conference series titled “Cities Promote Opportunity.” This series will explore policies, innovations and strategies that cities are using to increase economic opportunities and, ultimately, improve the well-being of residents. City stakeholders that have implemented innovative strategies at the local level will share their experience and ideas, giving participants a great opportunity to hear from individuals that are in the midst of this work. The schedule for the “Cities Promote Opportunity” series is as follows:

September 20, 2012: New City Task Forces

This conference explored task forces that have been created in Hartford, CT and Richmond, VA. Mayors from both cities highlighted expectations for task force implementation and assessment, as well as the key components of job creation strategies.

Thursday, October 18th, 3-4pm (ET): New City Strategies
This conference will explore the Poverty, Work and Opportunity Task Force that was developed in Providence, RI. With five years of work already complete, task force representatives will present new strategies that underway to continue its mission, including using multiple funding streams to support existing programs and ensuring that healthy homes are captured in both housing and healthy agency strategies. Thursday, November 15th, 3-4pm (ET): Building Opportunity
Members of the STEP UP Savannah task force will highlight how employers and local businesses are key partners in creating opportunity and reducing poverty. To register, please click here.
