A total of 893 potential applicants submitted their intent to apply for the 2012 Race to the Top – District program. With nearly 900 applicants looking to engage in more local reform efforts, this year’s competition will be tight as the Department of Education anticipates awarding a total of $400 million across 15-25 districts.
The Race to the Top – District competition encourages local districts (or groups of districts) to find innovative ways to personalize education for students and create transformative change within schools by providing school leaders and teachers with key tools and resources in order to best meet the needs of students. Applications are due October 30th and award announcements will be made no later than December 31, 2012.
