Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the finalists in its Race to the Top-District (RTTT-D) competition. Sixty-one finalists were selected from almost 400 applicants who were vying for a portion of nearly $400 million. Applicants to the RTTT-D program submitted plans that would help them to close achievement gaps, better prepare their students for college and careers, and personalize student learning.
ED anticipates making between 15 and 25 awards ranging from $5 to $40 million dollars. The winning applicants should be announced before the end of 2012. Be sure to check out our blog for updates once the awards have been announced.
