Sustainable Communities HotReport Tool

The U.S. Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have created the Sustainable Communities HotReport. The HotReport uses US Census Bureau data to report how well communities are performing on a variety of indicators related to sustainability such as transportation, housing, economic development, income and equity. Using maps, charts and tables, users can gather data on their own community and compare it to state and national data.

HUD, DOT and EPA make up the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, a federal partnership collaboration working to support communities nationwide in the development of more environmentally and economically sustainable strategies. The Partnership has developed six livability principles:
  • Provide more transportation choices,
  • Promote equitable and affordable housing,
  • Improve economic competitiveness,
  • Support existing communities,
  • Coordinate and leverage federal policies and funding, and
  • Value communities.

The Partnership plans to host a webinar on the HotReport soon. Check sustainablecommunities.gov for updates.
