The 2014 grants offered will focus on three main goals:
- Increase the number of healthy meals children in low-income communities receive through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP);
- Provide nutrition literacy to children that creates behavior change by teaching the importance of healthy eating;
- Implement nutrition and physical activity standards that increase access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity.
Eligible applicants must be a local government agency providing park and recreation services, such as a municipal park and recreation department, tribal recreation department, park district, etc., and serve meals through the SFSP and/or the CACFP in 2014.
Applications are due at midnight ET on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Applicants will be notified by April 1, 2014.
