Webinar: Ensuring Post-Secondary Success in Your Promise Neighborhood

On May 14, the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) will be hosting a webinar on key promising and best practices for ensuring the post-secondary success of all young people in your community. Strong early childhood and K-12 solutions provide a necessary foundation for children and youth to thrive, but solutions, both in the later grades as well as earlier in the cradle-to-college-to-career pipeline, targeted at ensuring the success of young adults as they work toward post-secondary degrees and credentials are also essential. Experts on and representatives from successful efforts to ensure young people are ready for college and career will share insights from both research and practice. While providing a range of examples and approaches, the webinar will include a special focus on how to develop a strong and coordinated system of post-secondary supports as part of the comprehensive community work that is Promise Neighborhoods.

Speakers will offer their thoughts on key questions including:

  • How is college readiness defined and measured?
  • What does the research say about barriers to college and career success?
  • What do we know about successful approaches to ensuring college and career success?
  • What might this work look like in the context of a community change effort like a Promise Neighborhood?
This discussion will feature experts from FHI 360’s Postsecondary Success team who will draw on their deep experience in this field, as well as a representative from a community that has engaged in efforts to improve college and career readiness. FHI 360 has led or helped support a variety of national and state post-secondary success initiatives including Partnerships for College Access and Success, KnowHow2Go, and, most recently, the Postsecondary Success Collaborative.

Confirmed presenters include:
  • Elson Nash, Team Leader, Promise Neighborhoods Program, U.S. Department of Education
  • Peter Tatian, Senior Research Associate, Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center, Urban Institute
  • Rochelle Nichols-Solomon, Director and Maud Abeel, Associate Director for Strategic Partnerships, Postsecondary Success, FHI 360
  • Hanna Doerr, Program Manager, San Francisco Education Fund
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, May 14 from 2:00pm - 3:30pm EDT. To register for the presentation, please visit here.

The webinar, hosted by CSSP with support from the U.S. Department of Education, is part of the training and technical assistance program designed for Promise Neighborhood grantees.
