Grants to Help Low-Income Fathers Build Assets

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration on Children and Families (ACF), Office of Family Assistance (OFA) has announced the creation of two grants aimed to support low-income fathers. The available grants are listed below:

- Pathways to Responsible Fatherhood: Grants will fund programs that have a strong track record of providing support for low-income fathers. Programs should provide case management assistance to fathers as they seek economic self-sufficiency in addition to promoting healthy, supportive relationships with their children and families. Up to 37 grants will be available with awards ranging from $300,000 - $2,500,000.

- Community-Centered Responsible Fatherhood Ex-Prisoner Reentry Pilot Project: This grant will support pre and post-incarceration programs for low-income fathers. Programs should provide innovative support services to fathers as they seek to build healthy relationships with their children and family, improve their parenting skills, achieve economic self-sufficiency and avoid recidivism after incarceration. Up to 4 grants will be available with awards ranging from $1,000,000 - $1,500,000.

These grants are excellent opportunities for community organizations looking to support asset building and workforce opportunities for low-income fathers while also strengthening family connections.

Eligible applicants for both grants include: nonprofits, city/state/local governments, public housing authorities and independent school districts. Applications for both grants are due July 28th, 2011.
